Funding from sponsors of US$20,000 is here solicited to support the following pilot study to validate a new self-study literacy methodology in Tamil Nadu, over a three month period. We will refine the instrument, enlist local resource people and carry out controlled experiments in several villages in South India, with the aim of discovering whether it is effective and if so to estimate the magnitude of the effect and the cost for mass-scale delivery.
